Sunday August 13th saw the return of Revolution Pro-Wrestling to the 1865 venue for Live In Southampton 25, as the road to the Copperbox hits its final few stops. The show, which once again delivered Pro-Wrestling At It's Best, was eventful with 11th Anniversary Show ramifications, some intriguing winners and losers and a darker side of one of RevPro's most beloved acts. The show is available now on revproondemand.com but, if you can't catch the show in full, we got you, as we deliver 10 Takeaways you need to know...
1. The Enfield Massive's Path of Destruction Continues
We need answers from Levi Muir, and these will likely come when we sit down with Levi late this week for an interview for the website. The intensity, the aggression and dominance that Trent Seven's 'Insurance Policy' is bringing to the table is scary. This interview occuring is a takeaway of its own, as Levi started and ended our Live in Southampton 25 show and was THE talking point coming away from the south-coast. David Francisco, Levi's one time trainer, was on the receiving end of a BEATING, despite a spirited defence fuelled by the Contenders' pride and honour. The post match attack was difficult to watch as David lay motionless on the mat. Brutal.
2. The Future World Champion... Is The Future World Champion?
But Levi's night didn't end there; he had his hands on referees, on Joshua James and then a hospital shot to the back of the head of Robbie X and a HUGE TKO meant Trent Seven again walked out of a RevPro show carrying the Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship, though it was Levi carrying it on his ridiculously jacked shoulders throughout the match. Even we must admit, it looked fitting on the self-proclaimed 'Future World Champion'; we genuinely may be looking at the future of Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship.
3. Challenge Set. Answer Met. Triple Threat.
After yet another strong performance from the Renaissance Woman, Hyan picked up her fifth singles win of the Summer. After defeating Rayne Leverkusen, Maya Matthews and Skye Smitson (twice), the Texan picked up a hard fought win over the returning Mercedez Blaze, who was making her first RevPro appearance since March and her first ever in The 1865. The match banged, obviously, and that really should go without saying in a stacked Women's Division, but it was the post-match which brought the biggest takeaway; Hyan challenged Alex Windsor and Mickie James to a triple threat match at the Copperbox and we listened - it is official, Alex Windsor Vs Hyan Vs Mickie James will go down at the Copperbox.
4. Copperbox! Copperbox! Copperbox! The Biggest Show In RevPro History Just Got Bigger (Again!)
The Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship - booked! Shingo Takagi Vs Will Ospreay - booked! Tomohiro Ishii Vs Luke Jacobs - booked! Gabe Kidd, Katsuyori Shibata and El Phantasmo's returns - booked! David Finlay, Kosei Fujita and Mickie James' debuts - booked! Zack Sabre Jr Vs Ricky Knight Jr - booked! This card is wild. And now it just got a damn sight groovier as the Groovy Gladiator, Jude 'The Dude' London and VeloCities partner 'Spartan Spirit' Paris De Silva have set the challenge down for Subculture and, we all saw the match graphic... It is official! Subculture Vs VeloCities, Copperbox Arena, August 26th.
5. Are We Set For The Biggest Great British Tag League Ever?
VeloCities and Subculture. CPF, who made an impactful return to RevPro at the 1865, Sunshine Machine, Lykos Gym, Greedy Souls, The Legion, The Contenders... All teams who must be thinking 2023 could be their year in the Great British Tag League. Live in Southampton 25 was the second RevPro show in a row to feature two tag team matches in a division which is demanding a place on every card. We know it is on RevPro managements' minds that this tournament is approaching and we saw a fantastic advert for it at the 1865 with VeloCities edging out the Lykos boys and Sunshine Machine defeating CPF. Though, speaking of Sunshine Machine...
6. We Need To Talk About TK
Sunshine Machine are quite possibly the most popular act in RevPro - loved by men, women and children everywhere we go - and did we half miss them earlier this year as Greedy Souls' dominated the British tag team scene. Now they are back and life is good again, an equilibrium has been restored and smiles are back on the faces of everyone involved... except TK Cooper. It was TK who looked perturbed at the 229 when VeloCities bowled past them to challenge Subculture after Sunshine Machine's return ended in defeat and it was TK here at the 1865 who was far from himself. "This is a frustrated Sunshine Machine. This is an aggressive Sunshine Machine". The words of Gio Nolastname on the call on RevProOnDemand has weighed heavy on my mind ever since I watched the match. Maybe it was nothing. Maybe TK was just not quite himself on Sunday. Maybe he'll be back to his beloved usual self next time out. Maybe...
7. The Cruiserweight Scenes Is One Complicated Situation!
Robbie X held the Undisputed British Cruiserweight Championship for eight glorious months as our sovereign lord, the King of the Cruiserweights, ruled over a simpler time; anyone, anywhere, anytime, one-on-one, may the best man win. Now Connor Mills sits at the top of the mountain and, whilst no-one can deny that he is as much of a fighting champion as Robbie was, the scene beneath him is a mess. Robbie X has claim to the championship; he was never beaten clean for it. Sha Samuels has claim to the championship; he pinned Connor Mills last time out in the 229 in that chaotic ten man war of a main event and yes, we hear you, we can exclusively confirm Sha is near the Cruiserweight limit but he is below the all important 205lbs. Now, after Live in Southampton 25, 'Wild Boar' Mike Hitchman has a claim to the championship; he defeated Connor Mills, albeit via a pinfall over Callum Newman in a triple threat match. Pedantics aside, the win column has Boar's name in it and the losses column has Mills' name. RevPro management need to make a decision as to which one of these men will get the chance to face Mills at the Copperbox come August 26th.
8. Gale Force Is Blowing Up A Storm
JJ Gale was originally not set to be on the card and was given a well deserved week off of action to prepare for the biggest match of his career at the 11th Anniversary Show against 'Ichiban Sweet Boy' Kosei Fujita on his path to destiny with Zack Sabre Jr. However, JJ did a Zack Ryder by embodying the catchphrase "Alwayz Ready" as he stepped in at the 11th hour to face Cameron Khai after Callum Newman, Khai's original opponent, was given the aforementioned chance to face the Cruiserweight Champion. Always with us, ready ready and always growing into the star he is destined to be, the Heart and Soul of Revolution Pro-Wrestling reminded the 1865 why he is where he is on the card with a professional, hard fought and clean win over Cameron Khai, a man destined to follow JJ to the top.
9. Trent Seven is STILL the 'Holder of the Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship'
On the Grapple Theory podcast, Amira said that Trent Seven did what he did at Epic Encounter to "stay relevant". Michael Oku calmly agreed. But we must admit, we weren't calm watching on at the 1865 as Trent lauded the belt around the ring to the "Trent Seven Army", three fellas at ringside who may or may not have had a few drinks; we were livid. None of this was necessary. Trent Seven pinned Michael Oku in the Gordon Craig Theatre; the last man to pin him in singles action prior to Oku becoming Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion. He was the rightful #1 contender and, given his place as a BritWres legend, he could have had his match at the Copperbox simply by challenging Michael. But then, he wouldn't be in the champions head, would he?
10. We Finish Where We Started
Fittingly as the 1865 opened and closed with Levi Muir, so to will this article as our final takeaway from the triumphant Live in Southampton 25 show is that, after all that occured, we will see Michael Oku Vs Levi Muir on Sunday 20th August at Portsmouth Guildhall. Confirmed by RevPro management on Monday of this week, the Future World Champion will face the Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion. So. Many. Questions. Will The Enfield Massive have the audacity to walk into Portsmouth with the championship belt across his shoulders? Is the Master of the Half-Crab anywhere near 100% after being hospitalised by that hospital shot to the back of the head just two weeks before this bout? And, most importantly, has Michael Oku bitten off more than he can chew, facing Levi six days before the biggest match of his career? Time will tell. So, what's next for RevPro? A return to the Portsmouth Guildhall on the 20th August and then, the big one, the 11th Anniversary show at the Copperbox Arena on Saturday 26th August. Catch all the action live and in person, with tickets available at revolutionprowrestling.com or On Demand at revproondemand.com.
